"The Wind" (1928) was one of the last great silent films. It was produced by and starred Lillian Gish. It will be shown Saturday, June 27, 2 PM, at the Michigan City Public Library.

Set in West Texas of the 1890s, it is the story of a naive girl from gentile Virginia who tries to find a home in the brutal world of Texas ranching. The film is noted for its vivid psychological realism. It is based on the novel of the same name. But the film controversially changed story by providing a 'Hollywood Ending'.

This presentation will include an exciting new score by Dan Schaaf. Recorded by the Dan Schaaf Ensemble, it is enhanced by enveloping surround sound effects. It also includes a digital restoration of the film produced by Sudden Production. The vividness and sharpness of the image greatly enhances the pleasure of watching the film. A short remembrance by Lillian Gish about the film's making and its controversial ending will also be shown.
